Music
Music is a huge part of our lives and of this region. We love the generosity of our musician friends who are eager to help, share, get involved and celebrate the joy of playing, listening, talking about, and making all kinds of music. We have many memories of musical gatherings, celebrations, and learning experiences. Possum Creek Extravaganzas, the Down Home, porch playing, festivals, Union Grove, Floyd, MerleFest, Nashville listening rooms, Skunkfest, Laurel Bloomery, Spinning Jenny, the Paramount, Isis Music Hall, Tennessee Theater, Peace Center, and others we just can’t think of at the moment. We love music. Listening, playing, and learning. Youtube is constantly playing Steve Goodman, John Prine, Brandi Carlile, Eric Clapton, Molly Tuttle, and so many others. In fact, the House of Strombo is a model from which we base many of our ideas for house concerts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5Rkm_dqm7A
Take a look at some of the music happenings that have occurred by the time of this writing. From just small gatherings with like minded friends and birthday parties to a full blown and fabulous premiere house concert featuring Rafe Van Hoy http://rafevanhoy.com/bio/, we are working to “fill this house to the brim with music.”
Our plan so far is to find, invite and host musician(s) at Fleming House and scrounge together an honorarium which may be almost doubled by tips from our guests. We so enjoy engaging with musicians, listen to their stories, and just revel in the joy of their music both during the casual concert and sitting on the porch before or after.
